Miles Davis improvising over LCD Soundsystem. Whoever thought of this was a genius.
New Shows!
I’m in the process of filling out my schedule for the New Year! I just added two new shows for January. Carmody’s Irish Pub in Duluth, MN on January 11, and Honey in Minneapolis, MN on January 29!
Today, another school years begins for my friends at McNally Smith, and it is a sad day to not be with them. Despite the several reasons it makes sense to not go back I still miss it, and seeing everyone else starting classes there again.
But I should still be spending some time there in the next few months. Rehearsals are about to start with me and some folks there with a blues group we’re trying to get started. We’ve been talking about it all summer, and now that people are finally back in town for school we can actually get some work started. I’m excited to get back to my roots so to speak playing in a straight blues band like I did in high school. Hopefully this one will be slightly more successful…
Also, I finally got a photo shoot taken care of with my lovely girlfriend, Laura. She agreed to take some promo pictures of me to put up on my music websites. Should have some good ones up after this weekend when she’ll have time to edit them. I’m excited to see how they turn out!
Speaking of school, I have been tinkering around with the idea of going to school at the U of M next year to finally finish up a B.A. in music. More credits from UMD will transfer there and I can finish up the degree much faster and cheaper there than at McNally. That gives me a full year between now and then to learn and master everything I can about music so that I can fly through classes at the U. Then with a degree it will be easier to get some more professional gigs. Theater pits, teaching lessons, etc… So despite the melancholy I feel now, I look forward to shaping my future and in the meantime I get to perfect my craft!
Denver!
I arrived in Denver, CO yesterday afternoon, and already the thin air and hot weather is taking it out of me! As long as I stay in air conditioning though I think my bandmate and I can get some real work done. Wish us luck!
I just got a call to play guitar in the pit for a musical for the Chameleon Theatre Circle in Burnsville. Looks like just the cheesy 50’s sci-fi show I never knew I wanted! Looking at the song list, I already know about half the songs even. What a fun project to spend the last few months of the year on!
My song, The Fool recorded with the help of my friend Ethan Hulbert. It’s okay to be a little scared…

Paul Christian and the Band 5 Debut on Kare11!
A recent appearance of my new group on local Twin Cities news station, Kare11. This song, Summertime was performed live on air, and there is a web exclusive of Cover Me linked at the bottom of the page.
Where did the time go? I guess like most New Year’s Resolutions, my Album of the Week project fell apart… Maybe next year!
In recent news, I’ve started playing with a band out of Minneapolis. Paul Christian and the Band 5. We had a big CD release party last month, and are now in the planning stage of our first tour as a band!
The other big thing is I’ve decided to once again take a break from school this year. As much as I love McNally, I need to get out into the world and see what it’s really like! Maybe I’ll go back. Maybe once I get some of my school loans paid down… For now I’m going to see where this new band takes me, and hopefully start some other projects as well. Blues band? Acoustic duo with mandolinist, Nick Klee? One-Man-Band? Lots of ideas in the works!
Album of the Week 6
Next on the agenda will be Combustication by the trio of Medeski, Martin, and Wood. My brother will probably like a few of the tracks at least for the DJ joining them for a few tracks… Cheers!
